April Rocha Photography 2009 Calendar

I have created a 2009 April Rocha Photography Calendar. It's CD-size and perfect gift for friends, family and/or co-workers. When I worked in an office I loved this size calendar on my office desk.

All of the photos in the calendar were shot at a dahlia farm I visited while on a trip to Seattle, Washington.

They are $17.95 each (plus $1.50 S&H) and you can purchase them through Paypal, credit card or by check. Email me at for more information.

Mark and Ingrid's Wedding at the Catalina Country Club

Mark Mettler and Ingrid Franchini Silva met in Portugal while Mark lived there and are happily living here in the US. They were married at the Catalina Country Club on Catalina Island. The details were exquisite and much of that was due to the wedding coordination of Cathy Machado of An Event Two Be and Tracy Spiter of Bloom Floral.

Jennifer and Mark had a beautiful wedding ceremony and reception on Catalina Island at Descanso Beach. It was a beautiful day and I just love how their wedding photos turned out. They were both so blissfully happy that day and it shows in their faces.

Shooting My Garden Project with Fuji Velvia 50 Film

I remember many years ago using Fuji Velvia film and being so impressed with its fine grain and incredible color saturation.

I decided that flowers were the perfect subject matter to starting using it again.

Two of my favorite images from garden project.

Yes I Survived It and It was a Lot of Fun

Spiro Roditis and I at Will Rogers

Spiro and I now

Well the reunion was a lot of fun. I got such a kick out of people from elementary school seeing each other after 20 years. It was wonderful to see from Will Rogers Ali Angelopoulos, Irma and Cecilia Arroyo, Sherri and Kristi McCune, Julie Tarpley, Lainy Rosen, Spiro Roditis, Mark Walter and Veronica Garcia. But so many people were also missing that I thought about at the end of the night --

Curtis Arndt, Amy and Terri Kissler, Greg Tesdahl, Stacy LaDuke, Jennifer Talt, Lori Matsumura, John Tostado, Morgan Snyder, Jana Weintraub, Megan O'Leary.

Maybe putting their names in this blog will help me in finding them.

It was also great to see from John Adams the following people:

Jimmy LaBrie, Warren Wilson, Christi Gourley, Marcia McCoy, Chloe Brown, Gillian Brecker, Leah Melber, Kyle Menig, Mac McIver, Tina Wilson and Sharee Giselle.

I came home that night and made a slideshow. Click on the slideshow above or click here.

I Don't Know What to Think about My High School Reunion Tonight

So tonight is my 20 year high school (yes now you know exactly how old I am). To attempt to get in the mood I am listening to Sirius' FIRST WAVE station which now employs many of the DJ's I grew up listening to on KROQ (Richard Blade, Swedish Egle, Dusty Street). They are playing THE CURE right now.

I got out my old high school yearbook today and was perusing through it. Has 20 years really passed? Am I still the person I was 20 years ago when I graduated? I only read one entry from the yearbook, from Ali Angelopoulos, who I will see tonight. Such a funny letter to me and I'm really looking forward to seeing her tonight. Now they are playing THE SMITHS on Sirius. How appropriate as it was one of my favorite bands from the 80's.

I am most looking forward to seeing faces from my elementary school, Will Rogers and my junior high, John Adams. I am such a sentimentalist............

I'm wondering if I will hide behind my camera or be having so much fun that I won't think about taking photos. Will I create a slideshow out of tonight (and with what 80's song) or will I just want to remember it from my own memory....more personal....

I guess my blog entry tomorrow will shed a little more light on this subject. Until then...........

ASCAP Film & Television Scoring Workshop with Richard Bellis

Elmer Bernstein, Maurice Jarre, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Alfred Newman, Max Steiner, Franz Waxman, Jerry Goldsmith, Mark Isham - all well-known film composers

I was so honored that ASCAP asked me to photograph portions of the ASCAP Television and Film Scoring Workshop with Richard Bellis. My first day covering the workshop was at Fox Studios at the Newman Scoring Stage. Each of the 12 participants were given the opportunity to compose an original score for a 3-minute segment from a studio movie and then conduct a 61-piece orchestra. They had 15 minutes each to get a good recording. Talk about pressure.

They then asked me to to cover an evening with film director Tom Shadyac and film composer John Debney and another evening with Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard at Hans' very impressive studio in Santa Monica.

I created this slideshow as a little surprise for ASCAP and they liked it so much they put it on their official website.

Jennifer & Woody's Wedding

Jennifer Skowlund & Matt Woodlief's Wedding
at The Arrowhead Inn in Durham, North Carolina

I met Jennifer Skowlund over 20 years ago when we both went to St. Monica's Youth Ministry. We hit it off the minute we met each other. I was so honored when she asked me to shoot her wedding to Matt Woodlief in Durham, North Carolina at her mother's bed and breakfast. The Arrowhead Inn is so beautiful and the perfect atmosphere to get married. Check out the slideshow of her wedding below or click here.

I'm So Proud of my Dad

My father, Ronald E. Rocha, who worked as an electrical engineer for Hughes Aircraft (which eventually became Raytheon) for 37 years has found a new passion after retiring in 2004 -- electric hybrid bikes. My father has been hired as a consultant to Aerobic Cruisers, a Memphis-based electric bike company and he's specifically working with them on battery and motor issues. My father is working on something that is going to lessen our carbon foot print. How great is that!

A local television station did a segment on the company which I found on YouTube.
