I had a wonderful engagement session with Steve and Lovy at the Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes last month.  They received this session because Steve purchased Lovy’s ring at a Ben Bridge Jeweler store.

Lovy made this adorable Save the Date wooden banner so we included it in our photo shoot.

Happy Birthday

The next birthday card I am going to be selling (and of course using myself).

Found the Shakespeare quote today I am going to use with it.

To me, fair friend you never can be old,
For as you were when first your eye I ey’d
Such seems your beauty still.

April Rocha Happenings Why I Love Film

Miss Elizabeth Taylor

ElizabethTaylor2

ElizabethTaylor

Wednesday was a very sad day for me and for the world. The divine Miss Elizabeth Taylor passed away. There will never be anyone like her. Ever. From her beauty, to her determination, to her humanity.

Elizabeth Taylor once said:

My personal philosophy of beauty is to always believe something wonderful is about to happen.

Ironically I watched the film GIANT for the first time because of James Dean, not Elizabeth Taylor. The film isn’t a perfect film but you cannot deny it’s an epic film. A couple of years ago A&I had an exhibition of Frank Worth’s images shot during the filming of GIANT and an accompanying book of these images entitled AMERICANA. I absolutely treasure this book.

In the beginning of the book there is a two page spread of contact sheets. Oh how I love contact sheets. They tell you so much. The eye of the photographer, how they tell a story, the film they used and in this case one of the cameras Mr. Worth was using that day, a Rolleiflex, of course.

Frank Worth wrote:

Jean-Luc Godard once famously said that cinema is truth twenty-four frames per second, but George Stevens’ Giant is more than this, it’s myth twenty-four frames per second, over three and half hours of playing time. From the first frame to the last, this is fact is simply undeniable; Giant is American myth it its grandest, most operatic, and purest sense of the words.

Thank you Miss Taylor and thank you Mr. Worth.

Sometimes you receive something in the mail that just makes your day. My second cousin Becky sent me these books that she knew I would love having. And she was so right. Thank you Becky.

Great Video of A Soolip Wedding by Film Foto Fusion

A Soolip Wedding // March 6, 2011 // Los Angeles from Film Foto Fusion on Vimeo.

Sometimes it can be so hard to describe A Soolip Wedding to someone who isn’t from Los Angeles or who has never attended the annual event. The video that Jerry Verdin and Max Young of Film Foto Fusion put together represents what the event is about so well. I now send friends and family a link to view the video on Vimeo and my attempt to use words to describe it just isn’t necessary anymore.

If you blink while watching the video you’ll miss seeing me and if I had known they were shooting me working on talking to guests of the event or setting up my booth trust me I would have hidden from their view. They were so subtle that I didn’t even realize they were there shooting me.

Thank you Max and Jerry.
